Abstract

This study demonstrates the successful application of integration of GA and Ansys for size and shape optimization of a truss structure. Optimizing any truss structure is an important research topic due to the complexity of problems and the benefits to the industry. Furthermore, it is an essential need for any industrial manufacturer to optimize their design with respect to conflicting technical and financial goals. Therefore, the design variables were optimized in order to achieve the minimum weight. The capability of the method was demonstrated by comparing the results with those obtained by HPSO, GSO, and TLBO. It is observed from the comparative result that the present approach is 25.88% lesser in weight than TLBO, 58.23% lesser in weight than HPSO, and 26.66% lesser in weight than GSO.
