Despite the adoption and practices of western forms of democracy in many African countries, including Nigeria, insecurity, poverty, unemployment, conflict, high costs of living, and many other vices of under development are synonymous with Nigeria . This research, therefore, sought answers by raising questions on the development impact of the practices of western forms of democracy in Nigeria. A cross-section of politicians, university lecturers, and university students were interviewed on the matter. The analysis revealed yearnings for an indigenous democracy, especially from students and lecturers. While the politicians are comfortable with the system as it is. The research therefore concluded by suggesting that the country should innovate and experiment with an indigenous political system for the purpose of creating democracy and sustainable development.
